What Is a Fever?

A fever is not a disease, it is a symptom. It is a temporary rise in the body temperature due to the body's immune response to an infection or other illness or condition. The good news is that your body is fighting and that shows a good immune response. When to see a doctor for a fever depends on how old your child is, how high the fever is, and how long it has lasted. Newborns and children with chronic conditions are most vulnerable.

What Symptoms To Look For With a Fever?

Fever is the most common reason for visits to the doctor for children. But the fact of the matter is, only about one in a hundred children with fever have a serious illness. If however, your child has a severe headache or earache, is vomiting or has diarrhea, if they are refusing to eat or drink, or are crying and listless. More worrisome than the fever will be dehydration, be on the lookout for the symptoms of that. If your child has sunken eyes, a dry mouth, or a convulsion, it is time to see the doctor.

You should see a doctor for a fever in Glenn Dale & Oxon Hill, MD when the fever is accompanied by any of the symptoms above symptoms which can be symptoms of an ear infection, a virus or flu, or some other childhood illness. Don't hesitate to call your pediatrician with your concerns.

  • "I was in this place as a young girl. I wasn't bad but the people who had me in my family kept beating and raping me. I began to start running away. I had no one to protect me. I had gone in to Montrose medical place first. I was so scared but they kept me in medical until they could get me in the children's center.
My foster mom picked me up on Dec 2rth and bought me my first new coat. She and her family were so good to me.
There was a lasted at the children's center who have me a bible and looked after me mainly cause he knew I wasn't a bad girl there were just bad people hurting me."

  • "My daughters are 19 & 18 yrs old, they have been going here since they were toddlers also to the Oxon Hill location. I selected this practice because keeping your time off at work limited when u have children is important. Their office is opened until 7pm on certain nights. Which is great because a parent does not have to take time off of work with a doctor's office opened this late. There is never a long waiting time, service is prompt, friendly & kid happy!!! 😚😙"
