Asthma Treatment Options for Kids

Asthma, especially in children, poses significant health risks that demand attention. It's a chronic respiratory condition causing airway inflammation and constriction, leading to breathing difficulties. These symptoms often result in wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath for kids. Beyond immediate discomfort, poorly managed asthma can disrupt daily life, hinder physical activities, and impact growth.

In children, timely intervention and asthma treatment in Glenn Dale and Oxon Hill, MD, is vital because exacerbations can quickly escalate, potentially leading to emergencies. Maryland Children Health Center serves as a resource for families navigating asthma. If a child experiences frequent respiratory issues or exhibits asthma symptoms affecting their routine, it's advisable to seek evaluation.

Asthma Treatment Options for Kids

Asthma treatment in Glenn Dale and Oxon Hill, MD focuses on managing symptoms and preventing flare-ups to ensure a fulfilling and active life. Here are key treatment options you may find at our practice:

Medications:

  • Quick-Relief Inhalers (Rescue Medications): Albuterol is commonly used to alleviate sudden symptoms like coughing or wheezing.
  • Controller Medications (Long-Term Control): Inhaled corticosteroids like fluticasone help manage inflammation in the airways and prevent asthma attacks.

Allergy Management:

  • Identifying Triggers: Understanding and avoiding triggers like pollen, dust, or pet dander can significantly reduce asthma symptoms.
  • Allergy Shots (Immunotherapy): For severe allergies, allergen immunotherapy can gradually desensitize a child's immune system.

  • "I was in this place as a young girl. I wasn't bad but the people who had me in my family kept beating and raping me. I began to start running away. I had no one to protect me. I had gone in to Montrose medical place first. I was so scared but they kept me in medical until they could get me in the children's center.
My foster mom picked me up on Dec 2rth and bought me my first new coat. She and her family were so good to me.
There was a lasted at the children's center who have me a bible and looked after me mainly cause he knew I wasn't a bad girl there were just bad people hurting me."

  • "My daughters are 19 & 18 yrs old, they have been going here since they were toddlers also to the Oxon Hill location. I selected this practice because keeping your time off at work limited when u have children is important. Their office is opened until 7pm on certain nights. Which is great because a parent does not have to take time off of work with a doctor's office opened this late. There is never a long waiting time, service is prompt, friendly & kid happy!!! 😚😙"
