Newborn Visit
Timing of Visit:
- Newborns should be seen within 3–5 days after hospital discharge
- Within 3 days if:
- The hospital recommends follow-up for jaundice or weight check
- The baby was born prematurely
- Otherwise, the first post-hospital visit will occur at 7 days of life
What to Expect at the Newborn Visit:
- Review of prenatal and hospital discharge records
- Measurement of weight, length, and head circumference
- Evaluation of feeding, elimination, sleep, and parental concerns
- Review of newborn screening tests
- Administration of the first immunization, if not already given at the hospital
- Education and guidance on newborn care
